Dorset Wildlife Trust (DWT) has some great children’s events lined up this half term to get youngsters and families of all ages out and enjoying nature in Dorset.

Over at Lorton Meadows in Weymouth on Saturday 4th June, join the team for their annual Wild Lorton Family Day, from 10.30am – 4pm.  There will be a wild trail, pond dipping, face painting, bird kites, fishing for ducks, and prizes to be won with activities from 50p-£5.   Refreshments will be available including tea/coffee and a BBQ!  No unaccompanied children, limited parking.

Nearby, the Fine Foundation Chesil Beach Centre will be taking part in Dorset Art Weeks, and will be running a Wildlife Photography fun day from 10am – 1pm with photography expert, Tony Bates, MBE.  Bring your camera and take photos from around the fleet lagoon and Chesil beach and see your photos on our big screen afterwards for lots of top tips to get the perfect shot. If you fancy making the most of the sunny weather and getting your feet wet, the Marine Centre at Kimmeridge will be holding a Marine Bioblitz on Sunday 5thJune with the Capturing our Coast project.  People of all ages are invited to come and record as many species as possible in one day.  There will be cliff-top dolphin watching from 12 – 5pm and seashore rockpooling from 1.30 – 4pm. Experts will be on-hand to help with wildlife ID.  We’ll be looking for seaweeds, crabs, fish, seals, and starfish to name just a few!

In east Dorset, families can get creative, using nature for inspiration on Thursday 2ndJune at the Urban Wildlife Centre, in Corfe Mullen.  Join local artist Julie Herring for a walk on Upton Heath and get expert advice on your illustrations. The Kingcombe Centre (www.kingcombe.org) will be open for half term, with over 450 acres of grassland and woodland to explore!  Grab a Nature Detectives Trail from the Centre, and take a walk around the reserve. Join our Art Weeks celebrations at the centre with arts activities and wildlife spotter activities. The café is open 11am – 4.30pm for lunches, tea, cake and ice creams.
