Officers are appealing for witnesses to come forward after damage was caused to a taxi in Weymouth.

Dorset Police was called at 10.23pm on Saturday 10 July 2021 to reports that something had been fired at the rear windscreen of a taxi as it was being driven along Radipole Lane toward Spa Road. It is reported that a 4×4 vehicle had been seen in the area at the time.

The driver, a local man aged in his 60s, was left shaken, but thankfully uninjured. Officers, including firearms officers, attended and stopped several 4×4 vehicles, but they were all ruled out from enquiries.

An investigation is underway. No arrests have been made.

Inspector Darren Stanton, of Dorset Police, said: “Initial reports were that a shot had been fired at the car, however following our investigations a firearm has been ruled out. It is believed an object or catapult was used to cause this damage. This was a deliberate and reckless act and I would like to reassure the victim and the community that a full investigation is underway.

“We know that a 4×4 vehicle was seen in the area at the time of the incident and I would urge anyone with information as to who was responsible to please come forward.

“Finally, I would ask any motorists who were travelling in the Radipole Lane area at the relevant time to please check their dashcam footage and contact us if they find anything of relevance.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact Dorset Police at www.dorset.police.uk, via email [email protected] or by calling 101, quoting occurrence number 55210110293.
