Fish out of Water are a contemporary electric folk band based on the South Coast between Christchurch and Poole. Recently signed to Talking Elephant Records, the band are currently recording their first album for the label who’s artist roster includes acts  like Wishbone Ash, The Albion Band, Fairport Convention and The Strawbs.

The band have recently completed five days of location recording at Highcliffe Castle – a venue with unparalleled acoustics and ambience, normally more associated with weddings than folk rock.

The album is almost entirely traditional folk material reinterpreted by the band who have given all the songs an edgy, contemporary rock feel. The only non-traditional song is a Fairport Convention classic ‘Walk a While’, that in this case includes guest appearances by Zak Hobbs and Blair Dunlop whose respective grandfather and father were Fairport Convention founder members.

The castle was chosen by the record company as they believed the natural atmosphere of the castle would add to the live feel of the proposed recordings and help create the mood the band were striving for. After five days of hard, but rewarding work, the band have achieved their goal, with an album’s worth of sensational tracks recorded which reflect both the heritage of the song writing and the history of a wonderful building.

The band is;

Jenny Suttcliffe – Vocals

Alisha Evans – Vocals and Guitar

Ash Gannicott – Guitar, Mandolin, Keyboards, Vocals.

Ben Jenkins – Bass, Keyboards, Vocals.

Josh Askew – Drums, Piano, Vocals.

The album will be released to coincide with ‘Record Store Day’ in April and will be promoted by Fish out of Water throughout their national festival tour this coming summer.
