It is gay pride season, a lot of adverts with a gay theme popping up on social media, and it’s sad to see the usual nasty comments about “hetero Pride” and now also not having a “hetero button”, like the gay pride button we now have.
So, for all the affronted heteros I say this;
When hetero couples get abuse in the street for being hetero, when heteros can be fired from their jobs for being hetero, when heteros have to fight for the right to get married because they are hetero, when heteros can be denied adoption for being hetero, when heteros are forced to keep their true identity hidden for fear of rejection or abuse for being hetero, when heteros are publicly hung or thrown off of buildings for being hetero, when heteros have faced centuries of prejudice and bigotry for being hetero….then, THEN you can have a ”hetero button”.
But, heteros don’t have to fight against any of those things, because society is entirely built in their favour, and always has been. Every day is a celebration for heteros. They just don’t realise it, as they take for granted the rights that LGBT people have to fight for, and have had to fight for.
