Free, guided cycle rides return to Bournemouth this summer

Sky Ride Local bike rides are coming to Bournemouth again this summer, startingon Sunday 1 June.

Bournemouth Borough Council has teamed up with British Cycling to deliver free, guided bike rides throughout June, July, August and September.

Sky Ride Local provides the perfect opportunity for families and friends to get together and take part in fun, community rides and explore the local area on two wheels.

There are rides for all ages and abilities with different options available from easy-going to more challenging rides.

All rides are organised and guided by British Cycling trained Ride Leaders, who are on hand to offer encouragement and support throughout.

Councillor Michael Filer, Cabinet Member for Transport, said: “We are delighted to provide free Sky Ride Local bike rides in partnership with British Cycling.

“This is a fantastic initiative for everyone, from the beginner to the more experienced cyclist. Sky Ride Local rides are free, fun and healthy activities which makes them a great day out for families too.

“I would encourage anybody with a bike to make the most of this scheme and try a Sky Ride Local this summer.”

For the first Sky Ride of the season, residents can try either an easy-going Discover the Dunes ride, or for a steadier pace, Sandbanks or Bust.

For the more adventurous cyclist, the challenging rides kick off on Sunday 8 Junewith Into the Forest.

Jo-Anne Downing, Recreational Manager for British Cycling said: “Whether you’re still building your cycling confidence or already comfortable on a bike and looking for a challenge, Sky Ride Local makes it easy to enjoy cycling for fun, leisure and fitness.

“There’s no time like the present to get your bike out, register your free place on a Sky Ride Local, and enjoy some friendly scenic rides in Bournemouth this summer.”

Roger Brown, Sky Ride Local Leader in Bournemouth said: “Sky Ride Locals allow participants to enjoy the freedom and wellbeing benefits of exercising outdoors and provide the opportunity to build cycling confidence.”
