Compton Acres in Poole, Dorset, has been awarded as the best small tourist attraction in the South West at the prestigious South West Tourism Awards.
Compton Acres, highly regarded as Dorset’s finest private gardens, have emerged above tough competition across the whole of Dorset, Devon, Cornwall, Somerset and the rest of the South West, winning gold in the ‘Best Small Tourist Attraction’ category at the South West Tourism Awards. This award marks the most recent accolade for Compton Acres, which was recently honoured ‘Dorset Tourism Small Attraction of the Year’ at the Dorset Tourism Awards in November 2015.
The prestigious South West Tourism Awards ceremony took place on Thursday 4th February inside the stunning location of Exeter Cathedral. On the night, Compton Acres was celebrated for its ‘one of a kind’ layout which allows visitors to discover five unique gardens in turn. The 10 acres of beautiful gardens stretch from The Italian Gardens to the Wooded Valley; they include the Rock and Water Gardens; the Heather Garden and the Japanese Garden. Compton Acres also includes its very own Café and Tea Rooms, a Specialist Plant Centre and a Gift Shop to provide a wholesome tourism experience.
With the addition of this gold award to their trophy case, Compton Acres is now one of the most prestigious tourist destinations in the South West. Bernard Merna, the owner of Compton Acres, has said:
“We are honoured that Compton Acres has been recognised by industry experts as one of the finest tourist attractions across the South West. I am proud to have played a role in shaping the development of these historic gardens to their award winning status. Big thanks should go to the dedicated team at Compton Acres. Without their constant hard work and dedication this award would not have been achievable.
However, we will not be resting on our laurels and will ensure that the gardens looks better than ever this year. We look forward to welcoming visitors in the months ahead when the gardens will be in full bloom and looking spectacular.”
