Harbour to carry out oil spill exercise

Weymouth Harbour is set to carry out an Oil Spill Incident Management Exercise on Tuesday 22 March.

The intention of the exercise is to test the capability and processes for responding to an oil spill which could occur in the case of a collision, grounding or other incident.

Cllr Jason Osborne, Weymouth & Portland Borough Council’s Briefholder for Tourism and Culture and Harbour, said: “This essential major incident training takes place once every three years and ensures our officers, as well as staff from other agencies, are sufficiently prepared in the event of an oil spillage in the harbour.”

The exercise will be starting at 12pm, and will last for four to five hours.

Partners and users of the harbour have been informed of the exercise.
