Volunteers are needed to plant 150 trees in Littlemoor to help create a wildlife habitat, enhance the landscapeand slow down the effects of climate change.
The event takes place on Saturday 12th February from 10am to 12.30pm, meeting by the water tower next to the skatepark car park on Louviers Road.
People wishing to help out should bring a spade, gloves and wear sturdy footwear.
Mayor of Weymouth, Cllr Colin Huckle said: “I encourage people to join Weymouth Town Council gardeners and get involved with this tree planting event in Littlemoor this weekend to create a greener environment for all to enjoy.
“Volunteering is a very rewarding experience. You can learn new skills, meet new people, and feel a great sense of achievement knowing that your involvement has made a noticeable difference to the area and the local community.”
As well as the upcoming tree planting in Littlemoor this weekend, other areas of Weymouth have recently benefitted from our work to try to mitigate the effects of climate change, including in Wyke Regis where we recently planted a number of trees with the help of the 1stand 2nd Wyke Regis Brownies.
Cllr Huckle added: “In response to the climate threat, Weymouth Town Council declared a climate emergency and we have committed to making the council’s activities net zero carbon by 2030. The planting of trees in Littlemoor and at Wyke Regis last weekend is one of many actions which we are taking in order to help achieve this.”
