When it comes to renovating, your garden is often the last thing to be done, and once you are ready to sort your garden out, you will need to think about whether you want to implement small, more subtle changes, or go all out with a statement piece.

Here are some tips to help you decide how best to elevate your garden.

Add lights

Lights are a really simple way to add atmosphere and functionality to your garden. Many households stay inside in the evenings, especially when it is dark, as their gardens do not have lights.

You may want to add solar lanterns around the perimeter of your garden to light the space gently. Not only do they look beautiful in the day, but they can create a magical feel at night.

Alternatively, you could add lights above your seating area to make a reading den in the evenings, they would be perfect for lighting the warmer evenings to come.

Planters and flowers

Planters and flowers are a great way to help your garden feel landscaped when you haven’t. The right flowers can add beautiful pops of colour and highlight certain areas if you desire. When choosing the plants you will need to think about the amount of light, among other things, that your garden gets so that they can thrive.

If you don’t have the soil space, planters are another way to add greenery to your garden. You could create subtle themes such as Moroccan-inspired planters for some interesting displays.

Adding a centrepiece

Gardens can be a great place to show off your personality, and nothing displays it quite like a centrepiece.

You may want to add a firepit which can help to create a warm and friendly atmosphere when you have people over, but equally, you can enjoy it on a quiet evening. The great thing about a firepit is that they come in all shapes, sizes and designs so you can find the perfect one for your space.

A bar

Garden bars are becoming popular, so if you like the idea of a DIY project, then this could be the way forward. You could opt to have an open-faced bar, or you could convert a large shed into a walk-in bar – the possibilities are endless!

Once built, you can personalise your bar to fit your personality perfectly. You could turn it into the ultimate mancave with bar games, beer fridges, and a pool table, or you could make it a sophisticated affair with mood lighting, a range of drinks, and music.

Seating area

It can be hard to enjoy your garden without a comfy seating area. Adding one in could be as simple as a couple of chairs and a table.

If you are a larger family, you could consider adding homemade pallet benches or even an old corner sofa that has been upcycled.
