Kelvin Clayton, chair of West and South Dorset Green Party, said:

“This vote is a kick in the teeth for the three out of four young people who voted to be part of Europe. The Green Party in Dorset will work harder than ever to represent their ambitions.

“Most of the really important issues that affect all our lives can only be tackled at the European level. Attempting to do so as an ‘independent’ nation will be nowhere near as effective.

“The result takes away the ability of Green MEPs to fight climate change and to tackle multi-national companies that avoid tax and pay huge bonuses.
Kelvin added:

“We will continue to work with fellow Greens across Europe in our fight for the common good, but that task has just been made many times harder.”
