Landslip update

A clear-up of the recent landslip close to the East Cliff Lift took place last week. A small section of the promenade is currently closed for public access, and is likely to be closed for the next few days while we ensure that there is no risk of further landslips in this area. The landtrain will not be running a pier-to-pier service until further notice. The East Cliff Lift is also currently closed. The zig-zag path down to the beachfront is however open, as is the rest of the promenade, which is operating as usual. Our message is to ask members of the public to please do take extra care along the seafront.

We did have an expert look at the cliff faceon Friday afternoonand this is what our Seafront Manager, Chris Saunders, said afterwards:

“A geo-technical expert has studied the cliff face and determined that all the debris has now fallen away with no further danger of a landslide. A small amount of lose material, however, may fall when it next rains.

“We have been advised that a section of the cliff adjacent to where the landslip occurred does need monitoring over the next few days and therefore the surrounding promenade in that area will stay closed until further notice.”
