Football, at all levels in Weymouth and the surrounding area is about to receive a massive boost with the formation of a brand new club aimed at increasing participation throughout the borough.

Launched this April, Redlands FC will be based at Redlands Community Sports Hub, the town’s premier sporting facility.

Weymouth College will be heavily involved with the club, having agreed to become an integral part of the exciting initiative. It is envisaged the club will have different age groups of boys teams, girls teams, a men’s team, a ladies team with future plans to include a team for those with disabilities.

With the aim of increasing participation at the forefront of the club’s ethos, Redlands FC is looking to recruit new players of all abilities. Its first project will be to establish a 10-week Summer League which will take place on Saturdays at the state-of-the-art 3G Astroturf pitch at Redlands Community Sports Hub.

Redlands FC is looking to recruit 8 teams of 10 players (who are not currently signed for a team) in the following three categories:

·         Girls aged 8-11

·         Boys aged 6-8

·         Boys aged 9-11

Redlands FC will also be running a ‘Football in the Community’ programme which will encompass projects such as, schools coaching, including after school and lunchtime clubs, and soccer schools. The club also plans to deliver free taster sessions in schools during holidays.

Running the football side of the club will be Tim Davis, who said:

“Weymouth College and Redlands Community Sports Hub have been extremely supportive of both initiatives. I have already been approached by a good number of players and parents who want to be involved, which is fantastic news.”

Sports Development Officer at Weymouth College, Ben Heath is equally excited about the project commenting: “The new club will provide an excellent opportunity for new young players to play competitive football at a level right for them. We are also hoping to get them involved in supporting college coaches, which will provide excellent learning opportunities for all.”

Members of the community can also get involved by either helping with the running of the club or by signing up to a sponsorship package. So if you’re an individual or a business, and are interested in finding out more, please contact either Ben Heath or Tim Davis.
