Earlier in November the month long screening tour of the multi-award winning full length feature film ended in Moreton, the village of Lawrence’s final resting place. The screenings began with an amazing premiere at Lighthouse Poole on the 9th October and each screening had the Director Mark JT. Griffin introduce the film and host a Q&A. The tour consisted of 27 venues in the south west of the UK including pretty much every big town in Dorset. The film was watched by nearly 3500 with many of the venues totally sold out.

The film stars Brian Cox as Narrator, Hugh Fraser, Michael Maloney, Nicole Ansari Cox and Tom Barber-Duffy in the title role.  It tells the story of the last year of TE Lawrence (Lawrence of Arabia) life.  On 13th May 1935 Lawrence was involved in a fatal motorcycle crash. With powerful friends and dangerous enemies was it a tragic accident or was he silenced by the British Secret Service?

Dorset Eye caught up with the Director/Producer/Writer of the film Mark J.T. Griffin a couple of weeks after that Moreton date to talk about the film, Lawrence, his relationships and his legacy.

  1. Too many unorthodox opinions to accept any truth buried within. For example, TEL didn’t walk out on the royal family, he refused awards in a private meeting with the king. There is no documentation that TEL EVER had plans to intervene with Hitler in any way. I gather that some folks loved TEL very much, some folks thought he was absurd for posing as an “ordinary enlisted man” and the more scurrilous the rumors, the more papers were sold. TEL repeatedly said he was done with Arabia, he was not in close touch with Feisal (a heavy smoker who no doubt died of diseases that back then couldn’t be treated), he didn’t have a “savior complex.” Speculations simply aren’t fact.
