Organisers of the Bournemouth Air Festival are looking for a community football team to play in a special beach soccer tournament, as part of the Royal Navy’s and armed forces’ engagement activity at the festival.

27th July 2015: The award-winning Bournemouth Air Festival, supported by Kier, returns in August, bringing with it a special beach soccer tournament which aims to increase the Royal Navy’s engagement with festival goers and members of the community – with organisers looking for a local team to take part.

Teams must be affiliated with a Dorset-based amateur football club or professional body (e.g. a locally based business or public sector organisation).

The seven-a-side competition will take place along Bournemouth’s award-winning seafront from 11.00am – 2pm on Thursday 20th August and will see teams from the Royal Navy, Royal Marines, British Army and Royal Air Force battle for a newly created trophy. The military teams will also be pitted against AFC Bournemouth XI in celebration of the club’s recent promotion to the Barclay’s Premier League.

Now, organisers are seeking a sixth team and are looking to local squads and amateur football clubs to complete the line-up!

Air Festival Director, Jon Weaver, said: “The military plays a big part in the success of the Air Festival and the tournament is a way for them to increase engagement opportunities with the public. The armed forces will play against each other and AFC Bournemouth ahead of the air displays on the opening afternoon of the event.

“This is a great opportunity for an aspiring local team to play alongside some of the country’s finest and to kick off four days of festival fun!”

Applications are open until Sunday 9 August 2015 and the winning team will be drawn at random on Monday 10 August.

Teams must consist of seven players (including goalkeeper), plus substitutes, and all players must be available to play between 11am and 2pm on Thursday 20th August.
