Dorset Wildlife Trust’s (DWT’s) Fine Foundation Chesil Beach Centre is holding its annual wildlife event on Sunday 13th August from 10am – 5pm. Activities throughout the day include crafts, moth discoveries and marine encounters, walks and boat trips on the Fleet Explorer.
The event, which is being supported by DWT wildlife partner Southern Co-op as part of their ‘Love Your Neighbourhood’ community investment programme, is an annual free event designed for people who live locally and visiting the area to find out more about the wildlife of Chesil Beach and the surrounding area.
DWT’s Wild About Chesil organiser, Nicola Whitehead said, “Wild About Chesil is our biggest wildlife event of the year and we are excited to welcome visitors to our beautiful location. There will be something for all the family for what promises to be a great day. Learn about the wonderful wildlife, get an insight into some of the work DWT does in the area, and take part in fun activities.”
There will also be entertainment from local groups, including at 12pm Razzamataz Weymouth singers, and at 12.45pm a display by the Weymouth and Dorchester Taekwondo club. At 11am join us for a butterfly count and walk, and there will be a Seashore Safari walk at 3.45pm. The Fleet Explorer (£6.50 adults, £4.50 children 3-16 years old) will be sailing during the day at 10am, 11.15am, 12.30pm, 2pm, 3.15pm and 4.30pm. Booking essential for boat trips on 01305 206191.
There will also be stalls about the DWT Lorton Meadows Conservation Centre, eco-crabbing, Chesil and the Fleet marine life and the Little Tern Project. The Taste café will also be open for delicious lunches and refreshments throughout the day.
The Chesil Beach Centre is halfway along the causeway between Weymouth and Portland (DT4 9XE) with a pay and display car park. For more information about the centre and surrounding area visit www.dorsetwildlifetrust.org.uk/chesilbeach or phone 01305 206191.
