The MailOnline has put a pause on Dan Wootton’s column as they conduct an investigation into allegations that he used a pseudonym and offered money to colleagues for sexual material. Dan Wootton, who has been a regular columnist for the online news outlet since 2021, had his last article published on 29 June.

The Sun newspaper has also stated that they are looking into allegations against the New Zealand-born presenter. Last month, Wootton acknowledged that he had made “errors of judgement” in the past but strongly denied criminal allegations made in a report by the Byline Times, branding them as “simply untrue”.

On his show, “Dan Wootton Tonight,” he revealed that he believes he is the target of a “smear campaign” orchestrated by individuals with personal agendas. He also disclosed that he had been in an abusive relationship in the past, which he was discussing for the first time in the wake of these allegations.

A spokesperson for DMG Media, the publisher of MailOnline, said that the allegations are serious, complex, and historic, and an independent investigation is underway at the media group during the period Wootton was employed there. As a result, his freelance column with MailOnline has been paused for the time being.

Many of the allegations against Wootton are related to events that allegedly occurred while he was working at The Sun, where he held positions as an executive editor and previously as editor of the paper’s bizarre column. After addressing the allegations on his show, Wootton stated that he cannot provide further comments on the advice of his lawyers.

Byline Times has contacted the Metropolitan Police with evidence related to the allegations, though there is currently no active investigation. In 2021, Wootton left The Sun and now hosts his weeknight opinion show on GB News. He previously worked as a showbiz editor at the now-defunct News of the World and appeared on ITV’s Lorraine as the showbiz correspondent.
