It is with great pleasure that the teams associated with Dorset Eye and the newly formed Searchlight citizen journalism platforms announce today a major co-operative agreement to promote citizen driven news services to the communities of Greater Bournemouth and the County of Dorset.
Graham Horne, co-founder of ‘Southbourne, Pokesdown and Boscombe Searchlight’ (soon to be renamed) said
“This is a major leap forward in empowering the citizens of Bournemouth and Dorset to report the news that they want reported.
The people of Dorset can now make their own news on a community, regional or county wide basis.
The Echo group papers have had it their own way for too long and have enjoyed a monopoly on news reporting that often fails to meet the expectations of the citizens of Dorset. There needs to be an alternative to the top down driven coporate media model that dominates news outlets today and this co-operative deal between Dorset Eye and SPB Searchlight aims to provide this alternative; democratically driven and accountable to the communities we serve.”
This co-operative agreement is to take immediate effect.
