Man has part of ear bitten off in assault in Weymouth

Detectives investigating an alleged assault in Weymouth are appealing for witnesses to come forward – with one man charged.

Dorset Police received a report at around 11.45am on Tuesday 11 May 2021 of an assault involving two men on Beverley Road. 

It is reported that the victim – a man aged in his 20s from Weymouth – was hit with a metal pole and had part of his ear bitten off. The victim was taken to hospital to be treated for these serious injuries.

Officers attended and a 42-year-old man from Weymouth was arrested at the scene. He has since been charged with causing grievous bodily harm with intent and is due to appear at Poole Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday 12 May 2021.

Detective Constable David Barnes, of Weymouth CID, said: “Our enquiries are continuing into this incident and I would ask anyone who witnessed what happened and has not already spoken to police to please get in touch.

“I am also keen to hear from anyone who may have relevant footage from either a mobile phone, dashcam or home CCTV system that may assist my investigation.”
