A man has been jailed for four years and 10 months for carrying out a violent attack on a woman in her Poole home.
Steven Jon Carpenter, 44 and formerly of Frances Road in Bournemouth, was sentenced at Bournemouth Crown Court on Tuesday 2 April 2019 after pleading guilty to false imprisonment at a previous hearing.
Due to the danger he poses, Carpenter was told he would have to serve an additional four years on extended licence once released from prison.
In the early hours of Sunday 27 May 2018 Carpenter arrived unannounced at the home of the victim – a woman he had previously been in a relationship with.
He stayed at the address for some time before he was asked to leave. He asked to use the bathroom and on his return he grabbed his victim around her throat in a headlock, leaving her struggling for breath.
He forced his victim to put her hands together and then began to bind them with parcel tape. His victim attempted to rip the tape back off.
Carpenter then rammed his fingers into her mouth. His victim made attempts to leave but Carpenter grabbed her hair and pulled her back and pushed her face down onto the floor.
Despite making another violent attempt to stop her leaving, his victim managed to get to the front door but Carpenter caught up with her, pulled her backwards and punched her in the face.
His victim got out onto the front of the house and was again attacked by Carpenter as she lay on the driveway by using his body weight to stop her moving.
A neighbour, who heard the victim’s screams, rushed to her aid and took her to safety.
She sustained bruising to her eye, reddening to her neck and chest area, scratches on her left wrist and bruising on her left knee.
Detective Constable Honor McAdam, of Bournemouth CID, said: “Steven Carpenter is a vicious man who put his victim through a terrifying and violent ordeal.
“I would like to praise the victim for her evidence and the member of public who went to the victim’s aid and helped provide further evidence that helped to secure a guilty plea and a substantial prison sentence.
