Mayor of Weymouth & Portland Cllr Kate Wheller is thanking people across the borough for their generosity after £1,300 was given out to charities for the Christmas Fund Appeal.

The appeal was launched in December with the help of Weymouth & Portland Lions Club to help improve the lives of people within the community.

Cllr Kate Wheller said: “I am delighted we have been able to raise so much and thank everyone who contributed to the appeal.

“The generous donations have benefitted many local people and made a real difference to those in need this Christmas.”

The charities that have so far benefitted include:

Lantern – £200

Salvation Army – £200

Weymouth Food Bank – £100

Forget-Me-Not – £250

Soul Food – £200

Portland Food Bank – £100

Island Community Action – £250

Further funds will be allocated to those who request support.

The Mayor’s Christmas Appeal runs all year round and is open for donations at any time. These can be sent to the Mayor’s Christmas Fund, Council Offices, North Quay, Weymouth DT4 8TA.

Requests for assistance from the fund should also be addressed to the Mayor at the same address.
