Mayor’s Fund raises money for charities

The Mayor’s Fund has raised £2,995.06 for two local charities during 2013-14.

St John Ambulance and CLIC Sargent will receive an equal share of the money.

Cheques will be presented to representatives of both organisations, at CLIC Sargent in St Thomas Street, Weymouth at 11am on Friday 8 August.

Former Mayor Ray Banham selected both charities for his term in office during 2013-14.

The money was raised through a number of events held over the course of the year, including town centre collections, donations and charity stalls.

Ray said he was delighted that the local community had been so generous and donated towards the fund.

He said: “I think it’s fantastic that these two brilliant charities who do so much hard work for their respective causes will benefit from the money raised.

“I would also like to thank all those people who helped raise the money as without their continued support we wouldn’t have received such substantial amount.”

Current Mayor Cllr Kate Wheller is supporting her selected charity, The Friendship Club. Donations can be made directly to the Civic Office, North Quay, Weymouth.
