The Weymouth BID is delighted to announce that the first ever Dorset Farmers’ Market will be coming to Weymouth on Friday 24th April between 9am and 2pm. The market, consisting of 17 stalls will be located in St Thomas Street, Weymouth and will continue every month on the fourth Friday.
Jo Yeatman, Secretary of Dorset Farmers’ markets said “ It is very exciting to see the Dorset Farmers’ Markets starting in Weymouth this month it has taken several years of fairly frustrating negotiations to get to this stage, finally speeded up, and thanks to the Weymouth BID the market will come to town on 24th April 2015 for the first time.”
Dorset Farmers’ Markets organises seven regular markets across Dorset as well as some occasional one-off markets around the county. The market is run as a not-for-profit organisation by the producers, for the producers and is committed to creating and supporting a viable local food economy for local farmers and growers. Everything sold at the Dorset Farmers’ Market has been reared, grown, caught or made by the person selling it, usually within a 30 mile radius and using local ingredients where possible.
Nigel Reed, Manager of the Weymouth BID said “The Dorset Farmers’ Market is exactly the sort of added attraction that we need in Weymouth, something different which will offer additional choice to the existing retail offer in Weymouth. We are also working with the DFM on a local trading stall to be part of the market.
Two of the Weymouth BID business objectives are to “Improve the Customer Experience” and to “Increase Footfall “, the Dorset Farmers’ Market should hit both of these points and we will be comparing footfall data from our town centre cameras.”
