Two brand new aerobatic teams are set to light up this year’s Air Festival, bringing formation flying and wing-tip pyrotechnics to Bournemouth’s night skies.

11 August 2015: Night-time displays from Aerosparx – a brand new aerobatic team displaying across Europe – have been announced as part of this year’s Bournemouth Air Festival Night Air programme. Scheduled to fly on Thursday, Friday and Saturday, the team plans to bring exciting innovations to Night Air, which combines evening displays with street entertainment and live music.

Aerosparx brings together world-renowned pilots – Guy Westgate and Tim Dews – flying in Grob109 motorgliders, known for their use in RAF training on account of their large wings, which provide an impressive level of glide performance, and excellent landing control.

The Night Air display sees the gliders carve smooth swoops across the sky in a series of graceful aerobatic manoeuvres, with the added sparkle of wingtip pyrotechnics and an LED light show.

Aerosparx aren’t the only new kids on the block – for the first time, festival favourite Brendan O’Brien will be displaying with The Fire Flies on Thursday and Friday.

Festival Director, Jon Weaver, said: “Aerosparx and The Fire Flies are two fantastic new additions to the line-up! The beauty of these displays is that they promise truly to light up the night skies like never before. They join O’Brien’s Flying Circus, the Twister Duo and the Red Devils Parachute Team in what promises to be a spectacular evening display programme and we’re delighted to welcome them to Bournemouth for 2015.”

The evening air displays are part of a packed Night Air programme which includes three ticketed live music events, presented by Wave 105 and held at Boscombe Pier.

For the first time, the Boscombe stage will host ‘Power from the Sea’ (Thursday) – a prom-style concert courtesy of The Band of Her Majesty’s Royal Marines Collingwood and in aid of the Royal Marines Charitable Trust Fund (RMCTF); ‘Pop Night’ (Friday) – featuring chart-topping music from some of the country’s biggest live acts; and ‘Take Off’ (Saturday) – a jet-propelled journey through 25 years of dance.

Jon Weaver added: “The entertainment doesn’t stop with the last aircraft, with highlights including Alesha Dixon, Sarah Harding and BlackBox, the Wave105 Night Air music line-up has something for everyone. There are still tickets available so don’t miss it!”

Tickets are available from bhlivetickets.co.uk and are priced £15 (Thursday ) and £12 (Friday and Saturday), which includes booking fees.

Along with fantastic displays and themed music nights, the official programme has taken on a new challenge to raise £45,000 for the 2015 Air festival charities, with £2 donated from every sale. Out now, the Vulcan commemorative souvenir edition also includes a charity wristband.

With another spectacular addition to the airborne antics and chart-topping acts announced in the Wave105 live music line-up, it is no wonder that Bournemouth Air Festival has been named VisitEngland’s Tourism Event of the Year!
