A new start for the Dorset Disability Sports Forum, which stopped in October 2015, as Sue Coombs was invited to be the Chairwoman and duly accepted at the meeting held on February 23rd 2017 at Rossmore Leisure Centre, Poole.

Sue Coombs has great credentials as she is one of the founding members of the Dorset Destroyers Wheelchair Rugby Club, along with her husband Nick and friend Paul Sutherland back in 2014.

The Dorset Destroyers have gone onto form a new umbrella organisation called Disability Sports Dorset for people with a disability, who don’t want to play wheelchair rugby and they have introduced Wheelchair Self-Defence, a Shooting Club, Wheelchair Tennis amongst other things on a Friday Night at Rossmore Leisure Centre in Poole.

The Sports Forum is open to all disability clubs across Dorset, whether sports or activities and it is hoped that a strong link will be formed across the whole county so that people with a disability have access to more sports and activities and the clubs get more people in.

“The clubs don’t necessarily have to be a disability club, like Ferndown Gun Club for instance who take everyone, but there must be many more across the county like that who we need to get hold of and to become part of the union of Dorset people with disabilities” said Sue Coombs. ”We want to get these clubs linked up, which brings in more people, it gives people with a disability the opportunity to play a sport or do an activity that they enjoy, whether it’s high octane wheelchair rugby or wanting to learn or get back on a motorbike”
