I would be interested in views on this, as apparently, the Jubilee Park Aldi will close in favour of this new site. It will mean that you will have an Aldi, Sainsbury’s, Morrison’s and a Lidl all within one small area.

Aldi are floating this by promising 20 new jobs!! The problem is I can see staff being laid off from both Sainsbury and Morrison’s in order to keep pace with the competition in a small area of retail of similar products. The claim that there will be 20 jobs created doesn’t take this into account.

The council are responsible for accepting plans that improve the economy, this plan doesn’t.

As mentioned in the Dorset Echo by people commenting, there is a lack of this kind of store in Littlemoor, a huge catchment area that is rapidly expanding. Also, Portland is overlooked again.

Aldi and Lidl are very popular with shrewd shoppers and it seems like a missed opportunity and bad planning to have a concentration of outlets selling exactly the same products in one small area that can potentially mean Sainsbury’s or Morrison’s considering their options.
