When one’s rationale for opposing Scottish independence is blown in to another stratosphere and the gulping is enough to cause a tsunami, we know the argument is well and truly lost.
Scottish independence refers to the political movement advocating for Scotland to become an independent country, separate from the United Kingdom. The issue of Scottish independence has been debated for many years, but gained significant momentum following the 2014 Scottish independence referendum, in which Scottish voters were asked whether Scotland should become an independent country or remain a part of the United Kingdom.
In the 2014 referendum, 55.3% of Scottish voters chose to remain in the United Kingdom, while 44.7% voted for independence. However, the issue of Scottish independence has remained a contentious and highly debated topic, with many supporters of independence continuing to advocate for a second referendum.
The Scottish National Party (SNP) is the main political party in Scotland that advocates for independence, and they currently hold a majority in the Scottish Parliament. However, any decision to hold another referendum on Scottish independence would need to be approved by the UK government, which has stated that it is opposed to the idea of another referendum at this time.
To ensure it maintains a majority opposed to independence it must keep lying to the public. Mr Farage is but one of many prepared to do that.
