Residents of Weymouth & Portland are being asked to nominate their unsung heroes for a Good Citizens Award.
The awards are a chance to recognise the generosity and commitment of those who have dedicated their time and effort to make an outstanding contribution to the community, outside of paid employment during 2015.
Winners have been recognised for things such as volunteering with Weymouth Citizens’ Advice Bureau, services to the British Legion and charity and community fundraising.
For the past six years, residents have also been able to nominate young people in the under 18s category which recognises young people who help out in their neighbourhoods.
Cllr Christine James, Mayor of Weymouth & Portland, said: “There are so many people in the borough who give up their time to help others in the community and I want to be able to celebrate their efforts.
“If there is someone who really makes a difference in your community, please nominate them for a Good Citizens Award.”
If you would like to nominate a good citizen, please get in touch with the borough council. Nomination forms are available to download on the council’s website at www.dorsetforyou.com/goodcitizensaward or from the council’s North Quay offices.
The nominator and the nominee must both live in the borough.
Completed forms should be returned to the North Quay offices by Thursday 24 December 2015.
A panel of councillors will meet in January to judge the nominations received and the awards will be presented by the mayor at a ceremony in April 2016.
