Kate Mason & Julia Aston

Kate Mason and Julia Aston (Weyport Masters Coaches) from Weymouth swam the length of Lake Geneva on 11th and 12th August 2015.  The epic two person relay began at the beautiful Chateau de Chillon castle at 0850hrs UK time and they completed the 70km/44mile challenge in 28hrs and 12mins later at the Parc des Bains by the famous Jet d’Eau fountain in Geneva.  They swam for two hours at a time with an escort boat by their side to accompany them.

This is a new swim within the realms of long distance swimming and was organised by The Lake Geneva Swimming Association.  Kate and Julia are not only the first female duo to complete this swim but also only the second people in history to swim the whole length of the lake.  They had a small window of opportunity due to the thunderstorms in the region at that time and were fortunately able to complete this momentous challenge without more storms interrupting their efforts.  Whilst they are both experienced open water swimmers the conditions in the lake and the duration of this swim tested their endurance and stamina, especially overnight.

Kate and Julia both want to thank everyone for their support during this event which kept them going and to Osprey Leisure Centre for allowing them to use their facilities to train.  All monies raised will be donated to local charities-if you would like to donate please contact Osprey Leisure Centre who will accept donations on their behalf.

Weyport Masters is a swimming club that caters for adult swimmers with training sessions on a Tuesday night at Osprey Leisure Centre and Weds night and Saturday mornings at Weymouth Swimming Pool.  Please contact Kate Mason on 07900 604445 for more information.

Nigel Williams, Manager of Osprey Leisure Club said As Osprey Leisure Centre has perfect training facilities for indoor coaching and a slipway for open water access many swimmers use the centre to train for their first triathlons; this is a fantastic achievement and I very proud to have them both as part of the Osprey Leisure team.”
