The film about Jeremy Corbyn banned by Glastonbury Festival bosses has been screened in the festival despite the ban — with more screenings planned.

The film, “Oh Jeremy Corbyn – The Big Lie” originally billed to be screened on Sunday in the festival’s cinema tent, was shown yesterday evening (Thursday) in the Shangri-La section of the festival by festival-goers outraged by the ban.

Norman Thomas, the film’s producer, said: “People have shown how they feel about the festival’s outrageous act in censoring the film by screening it themselves. And I understand they are going to keep on screening it throughout the festival.”

Mr Thomas claimed the ban has backfired “wonderfully”.

“The festival authorities, I know, only axed the film because of disgraceful pressure from outside organisations. But the whole thing has backfired on them wonderfully. The film will now be screened many more times at the festival than originally planned. This is a victory for free speech!”

The film, which explores the reasons behind the downfall of Jeremy Corbyn, and is produced  by London-based Platform Films, was launched in Germany earlier this year and given an enthusiastic reception at Berlin’s historic Babylon Cinema.

Mr Thomas said: “The Glastonbury ban will mean many more people will now be able to see the film. They will be able to see the truth of the film, as opposed to the ridiculous claims made about it. It is NOT a conspiracy film. And it is in no way antisemitic. It simply tries to tell the story of the rise and fall of Jeremy Corbyn which hasn’t been told.”

Mr Thomas also questioned why the BBC hadn’t covered the banning of the film.

He said: “A film narrated by Alexei Sayle in which film-maker Ken Loach appears is BANNED by Glastonbury a few days before the festival is due to start. The Press Association,  Sky News, The Times, The Telegraph, the Mail and many other news outlets of course report this story. The BBC, on the other hand, which regularly devotes hours and hours of its coverage to films and the media, and which recently announced that this year it is hosting more coverage of Glastonbury than ever before, has utterly ignored the whole thing! This is just fantastic.”
