The Men opened 2014 with a Hampshire Cup defeat to local rivals Wimborne. Going into the last quarter of an hour Poole were still in contention trailing just 2-1, but experienced told and several quick breaks and decisive finishing gave the score-line a flattering look; Poole out of the Cup with a 1-6 loss.

Back to the league and another derby defeat sharing 7 goals, but this was much closer, the blues edging it 4-3. But 6 points in the next two matches moved Poole up the table. Skipper Lloyd Moore described Yateley as one of the better teams we have faced this year and was really pleased to come away with a 3-2 win. And a disciplined performance and comprehensive score-line finished 3-0 over Andover.

On his side’s start to the New Year Captain Moore said,

“This year has started well with us winning two out of the three league games, with the two wins coming the last two weeks. We seem to now have a relatively settled 11 on the pitch week in, week out and our striker pairing of Elliot Mills and Scott Kirtley is really starting to gel. The defence is getting increasingly solid and the midfield also seems to be becoming more influential. A number of younger players have also made the step up to the first team which bodes well for the longevity of the club as a whole.

Moving forward our objective has to be to finish the season in the top half of the table. We have the ability to really test and beat the top teams in our league and I can honestly say that not one of the teams we come up against has played us off the park.”
