The Dorset History Network’s spring event is organised in conjunction with the Corfe Castle Town Trust Local History Group and the Purbeck Mineral & Mining Museum. The theme is Purbeck: Landscape, Industry and Community. During the day speakers will help us discover more about the rich social and industrial history of Corfe Castle. The day will finish with a visit to the Dorset’s newest Museum – the extraordinary Purbeck Mineral and Mining Museum which opened in May 2013.

Clare Randall, curator of the museum, will speak about the development of the local clay industry; the Dorset History Centre will show us how landed estate archives can help our understanding of historic landscapes and communities and weather willing we will take everything outside and explore the impact of industry on the local countryside in a walk led by Pam White of the National Trust.

This jam-packed day is on Saturday 29th March 2014, from 10.00 am to 3.30 pm at Corfe Castle Village Hall. Open to all, tickets cost £8. More information and a booking form can be downloaded from the Dorset History Network website at www.dorsethistorynetwork.org

The Dorset History Network (DHN) is for everyone with an interest in any aspect of the history of the ancient and modern county of Dorset: local history, landscape history, family history, archaeology and the built environment are just a few of the interests of our members. It seeks to encourage the use of a wide range of source materials including museum artefacts, archives and local studies collections for all historical periods and subject areas.
