After a nearly a year since the borough council’s parking review was agreed, councillors will look at how changes have affected use of council-run car parks.
Councillors will discuss a number of options set out in a report going to Management Committee on 3 March.
It looks at possible changes to parking tariffs in borough council-run car parks but also proposes getting views from residents, businesses and visitors to the area.
If the report is agreed the borough council will ask residents, businesses and visitors to the borough for their views on car park provision in the borough and their satisfaction with parking services.
Weymouth & Portland Borough Council Transport & Infrastructure Briefholder Cllr Christine James said:
“No decisions have been made but over the next coming months we will be looking at making a number of potential changes to parking services in borough council-run car parks. These changes will be advertised at the appropriate times.
“As part of this work we will gather as much information as possible from the people using our car parks and our parking services so we are offering a customer focused service.
“We will also be encouraging residents and visitors in our car parks to use cashless parking methods such as pay and phone instead of using coins in our pay and display machines. These kind of payment methods not only reduce our costs but also gives us valuable information about people’s parking patterns.”
Some of the proposals that councillors will be talking about on the 3 March include keeping free overnight parking but changing the times from 6pm to 9.30am to 6pm to 8am. Other areas include seasonal parking tariffs and carrying out research into parking patterns in borough council-run car parks.
