Young people can enjoy playing rounders for free this summer thanks to West Dorset District Council getting a £1,800 grant from Rounders England.

The first sessions will be for young disabled people aged 14 years and up and will be held at Dorchester Sports Centre on Coburg Road. The rounders course will run from Wednesday 4 June until Wednesday 6 August from 7pm to 8pm on the artificial grass pitch.

The sessions will be run by sports centre staff Tom Cooper and Sarah Symes. Tom has recently attended the Rounders England Activator training and has lots of ideas and activities to develop skills, learn the game and most importantly to ensure that everyone gets involved and has a good experience. They hope that they will see many familiar faces at the sessions and also look forward to welcoming some new people to the centre as well to enjoy this social game.

Please contact Dorchester Sports Centre to book the sessions on 01305 858400 or [email protected].

The district council will be rolling out more rounders sessions for mums and young people in Sherborne next month.

West Dorset District Council Leader Cllr Robert Gould said: “We would like to thank Rounders England for giving us the grant so we can provide free rounders sessions during the summer.

“We hope that lots of young people and mums take advantage of the free sessions and discover a new hobby in rounders.”
