Local schools are invited to send in their entries to a ‘make a difference’ competition which ties in with Alzheimer’s Society’s Dementia Action Week (20-26 May). The competition is organised by Waypoints Care Group with specialist dementia homes in Verwood, Plymouth and Upton, and is open to pupils from years 4, 5 or 6 to send in their creative entries that will ‘make a difference’ to Waypoints’ residents living with dementia. The entry deadline is Monday 13th May and the competition results will be announced during Dementia Action Week. For more details and to request a competition pack, click here.
Waypoints’ competition aims to ‘make a difference’ to its residents’ lives by inviting creative entries from pupils, which could be a piece of artwork that perhaps makes residents smile, a craft item that could be decorative or useful, or a piece of writing, for example a story that Waypoints’ residents might like to listen to, or even a pupil’s personal experience involving dementia. Prizes will be awarded to the school with the best overall entries, a winning individual pupil’s entry as well as runners-up prizes.
Managing director of Waypoints Care Group, Andrew Baxendine, said “We would love to encourage as many local schools to get involved in Alzheimer’s Society’s Dementia Action Week as possible and help ‘make a difference’ to residents who are living with dementia. We ran the competition last year, too, and were absolutely amazed by all the fantastic entries, ranging from thoughtful sensory boxes to a book of beautifully designed postcards. We really look forward to judging this year’s entries – the deadline to send them to us is by Monday 13th May.”
