Shane MacGowan, the renowned vocalist of The Pogues, has been discharged from the hospital, according to his wife.

Following the distressing news last month that he was ‘very poorly’

Shane appears to defying the odds again.

The 65-year-old musician had been under intensive care for several months due to a diagnosis of viral encephalitis last year. This serious condition triggers inflammation in the brain, posing life-threatening risks that necessitate urgent medical attention in a hospital setting.

Victoria Mary Clarke, an Irish journalist and MacGowan’s wife, joyfully announced his release on X (formerly Twitter) on Thursday, expressing profound gratitude to the medical team at St Vincent’s for their exceptional care. She specifically thanked individuals Tom Creagh and Brian Corscadden for their assistance during this challenging time.

Previously, Clarke had updated followers on MacGowan’s improving health, stating that he was “feeling much better.” She had also shared appreciation for the support received from well-wishers after posting a photo of the Fairytale Of New York singer in a hospital bed the previous week.

Clarke disclosed that MacGowan’s bandmates, Spider Stacy and Terry Woods, had recently visited him. Earlier in the month, she penned an Instagram post acknowledging her personal struggles, reflecting on the profound nature of love and its potential for both beauty and pain, especially when faced with the fear of losing someone dear.

The couple tied the knot in 2018 at Copenhagen City Hall in Denmark after spending over 32 years together. MacGowan has encountered multiple health setbacks in recent years, including a pelvis fracture in 2015 that resulted in his continued use of a wheelchair. Additionally, six years later, he suffered a knee injury and torn ligaments in his left leg, leading to a permanent loss of mobility confirmed in April.

MacGowan has been candid about his ongoing battle with addiction, a journey that prompted him to undergo a full set of teeth implants in 2015 due to the extensive damage caused by years of substance abuse.
