Last call for book lovers and scribes to join the Dorset Readers’ and Writers’ Day.

There are still a few tickets left for the biennial event, which promises to be a literary feast with a fantastic line-up of celebrated authors sharing their passion.

The event takes place Saturday 28 June at the Exchange, Sturminster Newton, in the heart of Blackmore Vale, 10am – 4pm.

Cllr Colin Jamieson, Cabinet member for community services at Dorset County Council, said: “If like me, you have a passion for reading and writing, you’ll love Dorset’s Readers’ & Writers’ Day. There is a brilliant mix of best-selling, nationally acclaimed and local authors lined up, who will inspire you with their energy and enthusiasm. It fits very well with our work to promote books and the enjoyment of reading.

“I know we can look forward to some really exciting, imaginative workshops as well where people can come together to explore their creative side.”

Best-selling authors Denise Mina, Matt Haig and Judy Astley will be there to talk about their books and inspirations. There will also be a performance by topical poet and radio 4 regular, Matt Harvey.

Denise Mina is often described as an author of Tartan Noir. Her numerous awards include ‘Theakstons’ Crime Novel of the Year.

Judy Astley has published one novel a year since 1994. Her latest novel, “In the Summertime”, will be published this summer.

Matt Haig’s most recent novel, ‘The Humans’, has been chosen as one of the 20 World Book Night 2014 books, and was also nominated for an Edgar Award. He also writes for children and teens and “Shadow Forest” won the Nestlé Children’s Book Prize in 2007.

There is a wide range of exciting workshops to choose from, covering everything from creative writing to poetry and book discussion sessions. Highlights include a talk from historical novelist, poetry anthologist and TV producer, Daisy Goodwin, scriptwriting tips with Anthony Burt and spy thriller and short story writer Mick Herron.

There will also be an opportunity to browse stands and displays, meet authors and buy books at the Readers’ Fair.
