Stand Up Against Racism Dorset is calling on all decent people locally and not so locally to unite. Having got rid of the local landowner as its MP, a man dependent upon wealth derived from the tyranny of slavery, it is now time to get rid of Bibby Stockholm, a political own goal built upon lies and misinformation.
The demands to the local and national governments are:
• Ensure the Bibby Stockholm contract is not renewed.
• Use planning powers to stop it’s use.
• Urgently step up support to the barge residents from the council, currently provided by PGFG.
• Spend the money from the Home Office to benefit local people and refugees.
• Take a lead in publicly welcoming refugees in Dorset and challenging the lies, myths and misinformation circulated by some.
Over 300 refugees housed on the Bibby Stockholm have taken action this week, missing meals and organising protests to demand the new government end their limbo by processing their claims and scrapping the barge by not renewing its contract. There have been solidarity protests at the port and meetings have been called for with the new MP and government.
Too many locals are sadly creating and repeating lies based upon their now well known prejudices. These people are turning to well known populist liars in the likes of Nigel Farage and Tommy Robinson which is creating a fascist insurgency into the UK that only seeks to perpetuate hate and authoritarianism. We saw it in Germany in the 1930’s and no good comes from it. The only ones who benefit financially are those who feed the gullible, insecure and powerless.
Did you know that Portland Port owners Langham Industries funded UKIP? They then benefited financially by dumping asylum seekers on a barge in Portland therefore betraying all of those who voted to leave the European Union. At the end of the day only money matters to them no matter how much some people con themselves.
Supporting a bunch of wealthy racist spivs and their apparatchiks will not solve society’s issues. It will merely make the con men richer at our expense.
