The Labour Party last weekend selected Simon Bowkett as their parliamentary candidate in South Dorset. Chief Executive of Exeter Council for Voluntary Service and former councillor for Littlemoor in Weymouth, Simon was selected by a packed room of Labour Party members as the person charged with the task of taking the seat back at the 2015 general election. Simon was selected from a strong local shortlist of four, including Mike Byatt, Dave Roberts and Rachel Rogers.

Speaking after the meeting Simon said: “I am delighted to have received the backing of the members in South Dorset to take on the challenge to return a Labour MP here in 2015. “I have seen first-hand what challenges local communities are facing under this government, but also know the resilience and community spirit that exists here in Dorset. People are telling me that they are concerned about the future of the local economy, their jobs and pay, access to affordable housing and cuts to local services. “I will be working hard over the next two years with our local Party and the community to ensure that South Dorset can once again rely on their Labour MP to be their champion on these issues.” Richard Baker, Chair of South Dorset Labour said: “Simon has shown the membership of South Dorset over the last few weeks what a formidable campaigner he is. He understands the positive impact a Labour MP could have for South Dorset. He is entirely focused on making that happen again and we are delighted to get behind him.”
