Local author and expert storyteller, Stuart Morris, will be spending an evening at Dorset Wildlife Trust’s Fine Foundation Chesil Beach Centre, talking about some of the most dangerous and damaging storms mother-nature has thrown at Chesil beach and Portland since the 18th Century.

During the evening, Stuart will use pictures to explain some of nature’s most natural processes such as the notorious ‘Portland Bill race’ and tides to describe how the people of Portland have been affected by flooding and storms over the years. He will also talk aboutsome of the numerous shipwrecks that have occurred on these shores, including how they got there!

Stuart lives on Portland and has written several books about the local area and its history, which have been published by Dorset publishing house, The Dovecote Press.

Stuart said: “After being approached by the publishing company and asked to write several books, I have spent many hours researching the history of Weymouth and Portland. I enjoy sharing my work with others, and there is no better place to talk about the Chesil coast and Portland than at the Chesil Beach Centre! It’s nice to put a different dimension on my books by using pictures and commentary.”

The Chesil Beach Centre shop stocks a selection of Stuart’s popular books, which Stuart will be signing as a keep-sake for the evening.

Marc Smith, Officer at the Chesil Beach Centre said: “We are pleased to be hosting this evening with such an interesting local author – it’s a rare opportunity for local residents to come and learn about the history and events which have happened around Chesil Beach from a real expert on the subject. Chesil Beach has international importance as a world heritage site, and at the centre of the Jurassic Coast, it has some amazing stories. We are looking forward to hearing Stuart tell them!”

The evening starts at 7.30 on Wednesday 14th August and the entrance fee is £2 per person. For more information about this event and the Chesil Beach Centre, please visit: www.dorsetwildlifetrust.org.uk/chesil-beach-centre or phone:01305 206191.
