Officers investigating a suspected arson in Weymouth are appealing for witnesses or anyone with information to come forward.

Dorset Police was alerted by the fire service at 5.40am on Friday 5 April 2019 to reports of a fire at The Prayer House in Newstead Road.

The fire was extinguished and there were no reports of any injuries.

Following an investigation by the fire service, the cause is believed to be suspicious and police are carrying out an investigation into the incident.

Police Constable Darren Tharme, of Weymouth police, said: “This is clearly a valued community facility that has been significantly damaged as a result of this fire.

“We are treating it as suspicious and I am appealing to anyone who witnessed any suspicious activity in the area of Newstead Road and Westwey Road between around 4.30am and 5.10am on Friday 5 April 2019 to contact us.

“I would also urge anyone who was driving in the area at the time and has dashcam fitted to their vehicle to check their footage.”
