Community Groups and private businesses are invited to submit proposals and tenders for leasing the Greenhill Chalets and associated facilities.

The borough council would like to hear from any community groups or private businesses that would like to run and maintain the Greenhill Gardens chalets, Esplanade chalets, the Greenhill Play Gardens chalets, the Greenhill Public Conveniences and the associated recreational facilities.

Councillors at Management Committee in July 2014 agreed to look at two options:

• Invite commercial organisations to tender for a 125 year lease on commercial terms
• Invite any community group to submit proposals for a community asset transfer on a 35 year lease

Organisations have from now until noon on Thursday 16 October to submit their proposals or tenders.

Weymouth & Portland Borough Council Finance & Assets Briefholder Cllr Colin Huckle said: “The Greenhill Chalets and the associated recreational facilities are on a prime spot on our seafront and are a popular attraction for both residents and visitors.

“Selling the chalets will secure and enhance the supply of beach chalets in Weymouth, bringing back to use the closed Esplanade chalets, permitting development of additional chalets and ensuring an improved infrastructure surrounding the chalets including the retention of recreational facilities as well as viewing terrace.”

“We are asking community groups and private organisations to submit their ideas for their proposed plans for the site.

“After the tender and proposal submission closing date the ideas will be looked at and we will award a lease to the best proposal if any of the plans submitted are suitable.”

If any community groups would like any further information please contact Weymouth & Portland Borough Council’s Head of Estates Greg Northcote on 01305 838268 or email [email protected]

If any other interested parties would like further information please contact the borough council’s agent Mark Nurse at Goadsby on 01202 550000 or email [email protected]

The tender and invitation announcements can be found at https://webapps-wpbc.dorsetforyou.com/apps/property/disposals.asp

Anyone interested in submitting a tender for the Greenhill Chalets and associated facilities are invited to come to viewing days on Wednesday 3, 10 and 24 September between 10am and 2pm.

Viewings can be arranged by contacting Goadsby up to two days before the viewing.

When the tender deadline has passed the borough council will look at all the proposals and tenders submitted and they will be discussed at Weymouth & Portland Borough Council’s Management Committee in December where a decision will be made on the way forward.

If a suitable leaseholder is identified at the meeting it is likely that a new lease will be granted within a few months of the meeting.
