DJ Property are pleased to announce that they will be seeking planning permission for a new convenience superstore in Chickerell, creating around 20 new jobs.  The store will have a store area of approximately 4,000 sq ft, and is expected to open in late 2014.

The Co-operative currently operate in 21 smaller format stores within a 20 mile radius of the proposed new site and the proposed Link Park store will be one of the largest Co –operative convenience store formats

Mickey Jones, Chief Executive of DJ Property said “This new Co-operative store represents a significant investment for the western area of Weymouth and Chickerell.  At the moment households have to travel across to the eastern side of Weymouth to visit 2 large supermarkets or into the centre of Weymouth to access others. Many new homes, schools and businesses are proposed for Chickerell and the surrounding industrial area in the future and therefore it is very important that we can offer a sustainable retail solution on this side of the town.   The new

Co-operative “Generation 2” Convenience store will offer fresh produce, fresh dairy products, a bakery and other essential items, together with a cash point and ample free car parking for customers.”

Mr Jones went on to say “This development will also have 4,000 sq ft of high quality offices at first floor level.  The proposed development will feature ample parking, cycle parking, a separate office entrance, lift , shower room for employees who may choose to cycle/run to work and unrivalled visibility from the main Chickerell Road.  The site will also benefit from visitors to the businesses located at Link Park such as Screwfix, Toolstation, Topps Tiles, Euro Car Parts & Halfords.  Travel links to the area are supported by a new road system, cycle paths and a frequent bus service to Weymouth making this development an ideal choice for businesses looking to relocate to South Dorset.”

Gareth Dexter, Regional Acquisitions Manager for The Co-operative Food in the South West., said: “The new Link Park site in Chickerell will be important to us.  The local community has indicated that they would like a store closer to where they live and work.  At the Co-operative we pride ourselves on trading in the heart of many communities. This investment will bring a bright, modern store with an extensive fresh produce range and excellent customer service. It will ensure a pleasant shopping experience, and people will be able to enjoy picking up delicious food conveniently.

We look forward to welcoming new customers, meeting the community’s daily food shopping needs and, in the best traditions of The Co-operative, making our contribution to local life.”
