The popular Dorset pub, The Red Lion, on Blandford Road, has now reopened to the public following an exciting six-figure renovation designed to revitalise the existing space and give it a brand-new look and feel.

The Red Lion closed its doors at the beginning of September and has now reopened as a Greene King pub, following the completion of major works both inside and out, reaffirming the popular Poole pub as a central community space.

The inside of the pub has received a complete makeover to rejuvenate the pub and create a modern, welcoming atmosphere. Attractive new décor and new cosy furnishings create a contemporary, vibrant aura whilst keeping a traditional pub vibe. The pub also offers Sky and TNT Sport and will be showing all major matches for sports fans to enjoy.

Externally, guests can now enjoy a large, heated pergola, complete with festoon lighting, making it the perfect spot to enjoy a drink or a bite to eat, even as we head into the colder autumn winter months.

Formerly a Hungry Horse site, the Red Lion has reopened as a Greene King site with a delicious new menu, including a build your own burger for £5 every Wednesday and a variety of new additions, including pub classic favourites Steak and Ale Pie or the Mango Chilli Chicken Kebab.

The drinks menu has also undergone a revamp, offering an exciting cocktail menu and a new range of beers and ales. Customers will also find plenty of non- and low-alcoholic options on the menu, as well as a mocktail menu.

Enjoying a central location in Poole’s town centre, the pub aims to be a local community hot spot for all, whether it be for celebrations, sports, music, or just a casual drink or bite to eat. It is even dog-friendly both inside and outside, meaning that those who want to bring their furry friends can do so.

The pub ran a competition on its social media channels to find ‘Poole’s local hero’, who cut the ribbon on grand opening night. Poole’s local hero was announced as Tommy Killick, a well-known Poole Town FC football manager for over 20 years.

Dave Warrington, General Manager of The Red Lion said: “Our team at The Red Lion is thrilled to finally open our doors following the exciting refurbishment.

“The Red Lion has always been a central pillar of the local community, and we look forward to welcoming both new and old customers to try out our new offering.

“The revamp has brought a whole new lease of life to the pub, and we’re confident that customers will love our improved facilities, menu and more for an even better drinking and dining experience than ever before!”

Alongside seasonal events for Halloween and Christmas, the Red Lion will host a regular programme of events, including mother-and-baby and senior events, plus quizzes and regular live music.

The investment has also provided a number of job opportunities for the local community, with recruitment for new staff now complete.

The pub is also sponsoring many local sporting groups, including Poole Town FC and Poole Wanderers.

The Red Lion is now open and is located at 294 Blandford Rd., Hamworthy, Poole, BH15 4JQ.
