The latest news of The Riviera Hotel
For decades, the Riviera Hotel in Weymouth stood as one of the town’s best-known seaside destinations, welcoming tourists during the peak years of the British coastal holiday.
Opened in the 1930s, the hotel became a major part of Weymouth’s tourism industry, but like many seaside locations across the UK, changing travel habits and rising costs eventually led to its decline.
By early 2022, the hotel had closed its doors, beginning a period of abandonment and uncertainty.
Since then, the site has become surrounded by controversy, with failed redevelopment plans, ownership changes and local reports linking the building to suspicious dealings and alleged organised crime involvement tied to investment attempts around the site.
Over time, parts of the structure were stripped and left to deteriorate further, turning the Riviera Hotel into one of the south coast’s most recognisable abandoned landmarks.
Today, the building still remains standing, caught between redevelopment and decay.
