The Widening Gap

Prime Minister,

All this scaremongering by the Tory press over Scotland’s inability to finance its own future as an indepdent nation is becoming extremely tiresome, and is now serving to show up your government as nothing more than a bunch of petulant little boys who are determined to tell as many lies as you can in order to have your own way.  It really is quite pathetic.

The pound, for example:  Scotland doesn’t need the pound.  What is the point of independence if one remains tied to a bunch of financial incompetents who are based in the country from which independence is sought?  Independence is about forging one’s own path in terms of economic growth and diversity.  You have already tried to put the mockers on this by sticking your oar into an oil industry that you cared nothing about only three months ago.

Desertions by industry and banks.  Banks first:  Who cares how many assets are held by the three big banks that are headquarterd in Scotland?  They are all PRIVATE concerns and Scotland would be better off without at least two of them anyway.  One of them has just posted an £8.2 BILLION pounds loss, FGS!  If Scotland has learned one lesson, it must surely be that they don’t need the colossal weight of such obvious millstones around their national neck as they try and get their fledgling economy up and running.  I hope the Scots will kick these underperforming dinosaurs out of their country and institute a nationally owned bank in their place.

As far as businesses go:  Businesses know fully well that if they relinquish their market share anywhere in the world today, there are at least fifty others who will scramble like sharks in a feeding frenzy to snap up at least a fraction of that free custom.  So, the Torygraph’s whinging about business desertion is just so much hot air.  The opportunities that such desertions would provide for new, entirely Scottish businesses would be phenomenal, and those businesses know it.  They would never retrieve any customers that they were to throw off in such a cavalier manner.  They know that too.

Even S&P have said that Scotland could institute its own currency, and that is because – even though S&P haven’t said it – Scotland has oil off its coast that can be nationalised and used as collateral for that new currency while it builds up its alternative reserves of gold and silver.  Another lesson that the Scots should have learned by now is that privatisation is the unquestioned enemy of national economies.  Instead of receiving the full profits from industries that could ease the taxpayers’ burden, economies that contain privatised industries end up struggling to even collect the fair amount of taxes due from those companies.  The more industries that Scotland can take back into public ownership, therefore, the better.  There’s probably a few quid due for those two new aircraft carriers being built on the Clyde too.  If you refuse to pay for them, I’m sure that their maiden service could well be discharged by standing off those oilfields until the Americans tell you to wind your neck in.

You are going to have to accept, Prime Minister, that it is YOU and YOUR GOVERNMENT who have finally driven the Scots away, and that no-one – but NO-ONE – even gives a second glance at your paid-for polls and their skewed results.  That will be your legacy for the history books – The Man Who Broke The Union, through the unfettered actions that you have permitted that rabid creature at the head of the DWP to inflict upon so many, and whose actions have been read about by so very many more.

Like it or not, your Cousin is going to have to start paying rent and council tax for her country pad at Balmoral, and she’s not at all happy about that, is she?  Hopefully the Scottish Government will charge her Bedroom Tax as well.  As to where she’ll be able to go grice shooting in the future, who bloody cares?  A small reduction in the opportunities for upper-class barbarism will be warmly welcomed by very many people in both countries, unless I miss my guess.  Perhaps she could take up goff at Wentworth before Wessex decides to secede from London as well, because most of us are sick to death (in some cases quite literally) of your private-profit-grubbing government as well.

Maybe you’d be better advised to start dreaming up even semi-plausible excuses for Parliament’s funding of the buggerers of little boys that was going on right up to the time when your Dead Goddess was in the Big Chair, hmm?  I suppose we’ll be hearing shortly how PIE “misrepresented its true nature and purpose in order to secure the funding” and that “MP’s were not aware of the organisation’s true nature,” and that (Grrrr!!) “lessons will be learned,” yes?

Sincerely,

Darren Lynch
