A film producer has claimed that the organisers of the Tolpuddle Martyrs Festival are trying to suppress a film about Jeremy Corbyn.

Norman Thomas, producer of “Oh Jeremy Corbyn — The Big Lie” said: “TUC South West, who organise the festival, claim to have received threats of ‘serious disruption’, if our film is screened. This is complete and utter nonsense!  The film has now been screened over a 100 times across the country, in cinemas and meeting rooms as well as a film festival, and not one of those screenings has been disrupted. This is all just an excuse for blatant censorship.”

Mr Thomas added: “The film simply provides a view of the Labour Party that the festival organisers don’t want shown.”

The film was due to be screened at the Tolpuddle Radical Film Festival, which is a separate event held during the main festival. But the whole radical film event  has now been called off by its organisers as they weren’t prepared to proceed without the Corbyn film.

Mr Thomas said: “The people running the radical film screenings have been put in an impossible position by the festival organisers and I believe they have taken a very honourable but what must an extremely painful decision to cancel all the screenings rather than drop our film.”

“But this is a disgraceful development for which I totally blame TUC South West. They don’t want ‘Oh Jeremy Corbyn’ to be screened and will do anything they can to block it.  It’s out-and-out censorship and a complete disregard for freedom of speech.”

The film, produced by award-winning Platform Films and narrated by Alexei Sayle, tells the story of the rise and fall of Jeremy Corbyn. Featuring contributions from film-maker Ken Loach, it also examines the highly questionable part Keir Starmer played in Corbyn’s downfall and what it claims has been an “extraordinary witch-hunt of Corbyn supporters”.

A shortened version of the film was shown at Tolpuddle last year where it won the Audience Award for Best Documentary in Small Axe Awards.

Mr Thomas said: “The film didn’t cause any kind of disruption when it was shown last year. On the contrary it won an audience award!”

Mr Thomas said: “The film tells a story that the present Labour Party hierarchy wants suppressed at all costs. I believe TUC South West are guilty of an utterly unfair and unjust act which is a stain on the labour movement. This is entirely typical of Keir Starmer’s regime.”

“Oh Jeremy Corbyn – The Big Lie” was premiered in Berlin in January of this year and has now been shown in over 100 towns across Britain. The film is still being screened across the country. For details of screenings email [email protected]
