A candidate for the Tory London mayoral position sought refuge in the wrong pub to avoid answering questions about the Partygate tape.
The tape features Ben Mallet, who is managing Hossain’s campaign, holding a glass of red wine and wearing festive braces. Mallet was controversially awarded an OBE in Boris Johnson’s resignation honours list.
Malin Bogue, another member of Hossain’s campaign team, was filmed dancing to The Pogues’ Christmas hit, accidentally colliding with a table full of buffet food at Tory HQ, while wearing a red dress.
A third member of Hossain’s campaign team was also present at the rule-breaking event on December 14, 2020, organized by former Tory mayoral candidate Shaun Bailey’s team.
Bailey, who left the party before the video was taken, is expected to receive a peerage in the House of Lords next month as part of Boris Johnson’s resignation honours list.
Calls have been made for both Bailey and Mallet to reject the awards.
Three members of Moz Hossain’s campaign staff were present at the “Jingle and Mingle” lockdown-breaking event held at Conservative HQ.
Hossain was located by a Mirror journalist in order to question him about whether the party attendees still belonged to his team as he pursued the party’s candidacy against Labour’s Sadiq Khan. However, the criminal barrister remained tight-lipped as he walked through Kingston-upon-Thames, South West London, on Wednesday, on his way to meet grassroots activists in a pub.
In his desperate attempt to escape inquiries, he mistakenly entered the wrong establishment.
When confronted by the reporter, Mr. Hossain refused to respond and was asked, “People died during Covid, and people who are on your campaign were partying when there were Covid restrictions. Do you have nothing to say about that? Nothing at all?”
Initially, when approached, Hossain repeatedly greeted the Mirror photographer with a wave and a smile, saying, “Lovely to see you.”
The reporter then inquired, “Three people from your campaign were in the Partygate video. Are they still part of your campaign?”
A woman accompanying Hossain stated, “I wasn’t,” while Hossain attempted to divert attention by gesturing towards passing cars as he and our reporter crossed the road.
