Whether or not Trump keeps his promises is beside the point. Approximately half of the voters of the country doesn’t expect him to honour his word, or to do anything honest, noble, useful or public spirited. The other half doesn’t care what Trump does, so long as he makes noise against their enemies. The Trump cultists will forgive any lie from their tin pot Messiah so long as he keeps saying nasty things about immigrants, feminists, Muslims, the educated. He could (and most likely will) do nothing to improve the lives of his followers, and in their warped estimation that’s okay as long as he makes life difficult for those they hate. Miserable people who have been miserable for a long time usually have no hope for things to get better, so, failing an abrupt magical improvement in their situation, they settle for making some imagined enemy miserable too.
