Over the weekend (25th-26th July, 2015) the Turbo Dynamics team travelled to the Elvington Circuit near York to support several of our longstanding technical partners and customers competing in the popular Ten of the Best competition. The annual automotive event sees the fastest performance cars from across the UK come together to compete across three different disciplines for the highly coveted Ten of the Best title.

It was a fantastic weekend with a huge array of cars including Nissans, Subarus and Mitsubishis in their plethora taking on the competitions different events; a handling circuit, a quarter mile drag race and a top speed over a standing kilometre. After an exhilarating two days of competition Turbo Dynamics are extremely proud to announce that they supplied the turbochargers to the top three overall winners!

Turbo Dynamics would like to congratulate our longstanding technical partners at Litchfield Motors, the leading GTR specialist tuners, who had a number of customers competing at the event. Turbo Dynamics have worked with Iain Litchfield and his team for over a decade on numerous projects and are honoured to supply the turbochargers to their dominating Nissan GTRs. It was Litchfield’s customer, Martin James, who took the overall title after securing 19 points at the event with his staggering 1000bhp Nissan GTR 4.6l – which featured a pair of Turbo Dynamics supplied BorgWarner EFR 7163 turbochargers specially modified to Litchfield’s specifications. The car also featured Litchfield’s own manifold kits and fuel upgrade system along with a Litchfield/Bilstein prototype track suspension kit.

The team at Litchfield, who have fully tuned and maintained this monstrous vehicle, have revealed that they switched the motor to race fuel prior to the event with a fantastic result, returning 1,109bhp at 1.65bar of boost! Martin James scored an impressive 19 points overall proving to be the best all-rounder of the weekend, recording a particularly impressive time of 33.76 seconds in the 4WD handling course.

The success did not stop there for Litchfield with Will Chappell securing third place in his staggering Litchfield 1050bhp Nissan Skyline GTR 3.8l Godzilla. Like Martin James’ GTR, Will Chappell’s Godzilla also run a pair of our BorgWarner EFR7163turbochargers with a Litchfield manifold kit and upgraded fuel system. Litchfield have also revealed that the motor featured a Litchfield intake manifold and Ecutek RACEROM software their own updates and suspension kit.

Matt Waterman, Operations Manager at Turbo Dynamics commented on Litchfield’s performance saying:

“As the UK’s official distributor of BorgWarner’s EFR Turbos it was great to see them being put to the test on the track – not only did Iain and his team get the job done but they did so in impressive style! Litchfield’s monstrous GTRs and our BorgWarner Engineered for Racing Turbochargers really do prove, time and time again, to be a perfect match.

It is always great to catch up with our customers and technical partners at events such as Ten Of The Best as it provides not only an occasion to enjoy the beauty that is automotive motorsport, but also an opportunity to discuss current and potential future projects – which in the case of Litchfield Motors includes the retrofitting of our bespoke turbochargers to a Ferrari 458 amongst other projects.”

Next we would like to congratulate our partners at Lateral Performance, the leading Subaru performance specialists. In a ridiculously close competition Steven Darley, who drove the hugely impressive Lateral Performance Subaru Impreza 2.35l, was just ‘pipped at the post’ by Martin James. Steven Darley secured 18 points overall, narrowly missing out on victory by one point.

Steven Darley and the Lateral Performance Subaru, which has been dubbed ‘The Banana’, are no strangers to the TOTB course, winning the event in both 2011 and 2012. We are proud to be a long supporter of the popular Lateral Performance car throughout its remarkable TOTB career over the years. The car is currently running a Turbo Dynamics bespoke GT42R performance turbocharger which produced a powerful performance this weekend – we can’t wait to hear what the team have planned for next year!

Finally we would like to make a special mention of our longstanding customer Duncan Cowper and the team at Geoff Page Racing – the experienced industry leading engine builders based in Essex who are responsible for numerous race winning motorsport vehicles around the world. Over the years Turbo Dynamics have worked closely with Geoff Page and his team on numerous projects providing technical turbocharging assistance, including the iconic Pikes Peak winning Peugeot 405 T16 car and Duncan Cowper’s legendary Dax Rush.

Back in February we upgraded a historic 1980’s F1 Turbo to a bespoke hybrid turbo specification, leaving the turbo capable of producing 500bhp.

Duncan put on a confident performance over the weekend, securing victory in the RWD class around the handling circuit beating his nearest rival by almost 3 seconds with a time of 33.44 seconds. Duncan also recorded the second fastest time in his class for the quarter mile drag race with a time of 10.91 seconds at 140mph!

Stuart Flanagan, Business Development Manager at Turbo Dynamics, said:

“It was a thoroughly enjoyable weekend for the Turbo Dynamics team, and seeing three cars which we provide the turbochargers for take the winning three places made the journey up from Dorset all the more worthwhile!

It was great to see first-hand the capabilities of the cars running our turbos – it really gave a true testament to all the hard work the team puts in back in our workshop. I particularly enjoyed seeing Lateral Performances’ Impreza and Duncan’s Dax Rush in action as these cars feature turbochargers we have upgraded in-house to our own bespoke specifications. At Turbo Dynamics we relish the ‘square peg round whole’ challenge, so getting to see a custom project we have worked on unleashed on the track it is a great feeling – we are already looking forward to next year!”
