Two arrests made following bladed attack on man in his 60’s in Weymouth

Detectives investigating an alleged assault in Weymouth are appealing for witnesses or anyone with information to come forward.

It was reported that at around 3.40am on Wednesday 7 December 2022 the victim, a man aged in his 60s, went to challenge a man and a woman who he believed were causing damage to vehicles in the area of Newstead Road, near to the Asda supermarket.

The man reportedly responded by pulling a bladed article from his coat and made threats to the victim. An altercation occurred and the victim sustained lacerations to his arms and other injuries. He was taken to hospital for treatment to injuries that are not believed to be life-threatening.

Officers attended and detained a man and a woman. The woman was reportedly found to be in possession of a bladed article.

A 19-year-old man from Aldershot was arrested on suspicion of inflicting grievous bodily harm with intent and a 19-year-old Weymouth woman was arrested on suspicion of possessing a bladed article in a public place. The arrested man was taken to hospital for treatment to a head injury that was not believed to be serious.

Detective Inspector Dave Horn, of Weymouth CID, said: “We are continuing to investigate this incident and I am appealing to any witnesses or anyone with information that might assist our enquiries to please contact us.

“I would also urge any residents with home CCTV systems, or motorists with dashcam who were in the area, to please check their footage for the early hours of Wednesday 7 December 2022 for anything of relevance.”
